From Mountains to Medicine

Dr. Erica M. Elliott

Subtitled Scaling the Heights in Search of My Calling. The second memoir fills the decade between the classroom and the clinic: turbulent early years, the Peace Corps in the mountains of Ecuador, teaching rock climbing and mountaineering for Outward Bound, and the climbs that made her the first American woman to summit Aconcagua, the highest mountain in the western hemisphere, with another peak later named after her. It is the story of a long search for purpose that leads her, in the end, to medicine.

Where this book sits

The answer to that gap. A childhood moved around the world, Antioch College, the Peace Corps in Ecuador, Outward Bound, and the climbs in the Andes, including Aconcagua, that she survived while looking for what she was for.

What it leads to

It ends where the calling is finally accepted. What it actually cost to live inside that calling is the subject of the last book.
