Dante on Horniman Circle
The Asiatic Society of Mumbai, behind the neoclassical columns on Horniman Circle, holds a rare fourteenth century manuscript of Dante's Divine Comedy among its collection of manuscripts and coins. It is a working library, not a museum piece, and students still climb those steps with reading lists.
Each February the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival takes over the same district, and its literature strand fills courtyards and pavements with readings and author conversations, all of it free. Kitab Khana, a few minutes' walk away in Fort, carries the launches through the rest of the year.
