A festival in four languages
The Singapore Writers Festival is one of the few major literary festivals in the world programmed in four languages, presenting sessions in English, Chinese, Malay and Tamil across venues in the civic district. Readers move between them in a single afternoon, which quietly changes what a panel discussion can be.
The National Library Board carries the everyday version of that, with the Lee Kong Chian Reference Library on Victoria Street and a branch network that treats reading as public infrastructure. Epigram Books publishes the local fiction and children's writing that fills those shelves, and runs its own fiction prize.
Reading life in Singapore
